Strategizing at Legacy Data Access

Professor Lars Mathiassen and doctoral students Arun Aryal and Sumantra Sarker are engaged in research collaboration with Legacy Data Access (LDA). The dual purposes are: 1) to develop new strategic options that may help LDA penetrate a large unexploited market segment of hospitals who have not put solutions in place to allow continued access to legacy data after investment in new HIT; 2) to develop new scientific knowledge on HIT strategizing based on theory of complex adaptive systems. The collaboration is organized as action research and it involves LDA’s managing director (who is also an executive doctorate student at GSU) and five key colleagues in the areas of strategy, marketing and sales, and service operations. The action research draws on interviews with key industry players, archival data from LDA and select hospitals, as well as a number of workshops between the GSU research team and the participants from LDA.
